Adapt, is a selection of works from Brant’s MFA Thesis Exhibition titled, REcollection which consists of a series of paintings that internally disclose sentiments of loss and growth as the artist navigated unfamiliar environments over a period of two years. This selection of works is curated to emphasize the adaptation and adjustment period that is often connected to relocation and belonging. Through metaphorical representations of personal relationships, health and wellbeing, preservation, and memory, Brant uses light, shadow, and tropical house plants to represent the ‘self’ through this navigational period. Through an artistic practice that is heavily reliant on subconscious processing of experience through the medium of paint, these works inform the idea of “making home.”
