Every August when the gallery is closed between exhibitions, AKA donates our space to members looking for a self-directed residency experience. This year, we are pleased to host three members: Kathleen E. Houston, and Marie Lannoo.
Runway Show & Poetry Circle

Open studio hours Tuesday August 6th and Thursday August 8th 6:00 – 7:30 pm.
Kathleen E. Houston is a visual artist with a back ground in painting, fibre arts, installation, light drawing photography, and site specific photo sessions to animate wind sculpture and experience costume. The medium of costume surfaced as a form of “nature-body-talk”, to engage in multi-sensory energies and languages. Invited guest undertake a “Ware and Share” to develop her collection of “plucky duds” in social contexts. Poetry Circle: Kathleen will read “Cosmic Dreams”. Maximum of 7 minutes each. Senior Saskatoon artist Marie Lannoo studied at York University, University of Saskatchewan and attended Emma Lake workshops. Recipient of many SAB and CC grants, Lannoo has exhibited provincially, nationally and internationally. In 2010, Lannoo opened studio space at 330 Avenue G South and in 2012, 330g, an independent, self-curated project space of local, national and international artists.
Lannoo represented Canada in China at the Tao Hua Tan residency in 2019. Selected exhibitions: Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wei Gallery, China, Elaine Jacob Gallery, Detroit, the Lightbox, NYC, Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Yellowknife Art Gallery, McLaren, Barrie, Mendel, Saskatoon, Mackenzie, Regina, Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton.
Selected Collections: Canada Council Art Bank, SAB, Remai Modern, Mackenzie Art Gallery, University of Saskatchewan, Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Art Gallery of Alberta, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Canada House, London, UK and the Canadian Embassy, Hong Kong and corporate and private collections in Canada, US, Britain, Asia and the Middle East.
Publications include Abstract Painting in Canada by Roald Nasgaard and two Rheni Tauchid acrylic technique books along with several exhibition catalogues.
We are pleased to offer these members space to explore their practice, and we look forward to seeing what they create during their time with us in August.
